The League Against Cancer is a non-profit organization and depends on grants from the public and private sector, donations and a variety of fundraising activities such as this weekend's annual telethon.

A variety of performers show up to help get donations; none of which I know the names of.

So if anyone can help me with the names of these singers I would greatly appreciate it.

Commissioner Attends Career Day Event

Commissioner Jose "Pepe" Diaz participated in Hialeah
Gardens Elementary School's career day. He spoke to the students about the responsibilities and duties of the Miami Dade Board of County Commissioners.

Politics is defiantly not a topic that captures the attention of fourth and fifth graders, but Diaz used topics such as the future Florida Marlins Stadium and Miami Heat to keep them focused.

Orange Bowl Demo: Part 2

Here's a new photo from my ongoing coverage of the Miami Orange Bowl demolition.
The demolition was well underway until the wrecking ball that was being use to take down the Sky Boxes broke off the crane. The crane sustained damages as a result and was put out of commission for the rest of the week.
Looks like the stadium finally started fighting back!

Good Friday

Last night: Under a dark sky, members of various churches such as Saint Agatha and Divine Providence marched down the streets of Sweet Water (Miami, Fl.). Along the way, they reenacted the steps that lead to the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.

Members of Saint Timothy Catholic Church gathered in a parking lot in Westchester this morning. The procession is a traditional among Christians. It is done to observe the day of Good Friday.

Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden

William Lyman Phillips was leading landscape designer of Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden in South Florida during the 1930s. The garden is made up of an outstanding collection of taxonomically arranged and well-documented tropical plants, emphasizing on palms, cycads, flowering trees, vines, and fruit trees. This photograph was taken in their rainforest exhibit.

The Demolition of the Miami Orange Bowl

There's no turning back know! The demolition of the Miami Orange Bowl is well underway. Excavators make easy work of removing the bleachers and workers use cutting torches to do away with the steel stairways and platforms.
Decommissioning & Environmental Management Co. (DEMCO) of West Seneca, NY, is in charge of the dismantling. Hundreds of tons of scrap metal (aluminum, steel, iron, etc.) will be recycled from the site.

In The Shadows

North American zoos manage Clouded leopards through a Species Survival Plan, or SSP, administered by the American Zoo and Aquarium Association.
This leopard presides at Miami Metro Zoo. It is one of two in it's collection.
Clouded leopards are faced many threats in Southeast Asian. Their forest habitat is experiencing rampant degradation due to logging and the development of agricultural areas, including vast palm oil plantations in Malaysia and Indonesia.

Yellow Traffic Lights?

The work of a photographer is not always exciting. Today was a prime example. I was asked to photograph traffic lights for a magazine cover. Not just traffic lights, but yellow traffic lights.

Giraffe Neonatal at Miami Metrozoo

Miami Metro Zoo's newest reticulated giraffe under went a neonatal on Thursday morning. Several Zookeepers restrained the calf while Dr. Christine Miller performed a complete physical exam: Blood drawn, antibiotics, vaccinations, weighed, and was ear-tagged too.
The calf was restrained manually because it's safer than using sedatives; at least for the calf. The calf was then reunited with its mother; which was eagerly waiting right outside the barn doors. She has had numerous caves in the past.
The new calf will be out on display for the first time this weekend.
Quick fact: Giraffes generally weigh about 150 pounds and are between 5 and 6 feet tall when they are born.

Gilberto Lauzardo awaits the decision of Miami Dade County Commissioners.
After many hours of debate, the Commissioners decided that Miami will get a new ballpark on the current location of the Miami Orange Bowl.

A Moment of Remembrance

The daughter of Officer Jose Lazaro Somohano genitally holds a program at a street dedication ceremony in Miami-Dade County. Her father, Officer Jose Lazaro Somohano, was killed while on duty by an assailant who was armed with an assault rifle.
